Read this first
MyExp.org attempts to take advantage of new, emerging web technologies (referred to as web2) for the benefit of improved browsing and usage experience. These new Internet technologies rely on both javascript and cookies, two things that you have the option to disable on your computer. So if while using myexp.org you notice that things just don't work as they should, or act funny, before you waste any time on these or let frustration creep in, our first recommendation is to check in your web browser if you have both javascript and cookies enabled. If one or both are disabled, you need to enable both to enjoy the full functionality of this website and then please have a go at myexp.org again.
If things still don't work as you expect, we hope that some of what we cover below here will help, or you may always send us an e-mail with your question. Also if you have not read the Orientation page as yet, you may find it helpful to read it first as a quick introduction to myexp.org before going through the rest of this help page.
Modes of operation
The two modes of operation at MyExp.org are browsing experience stories or submitting an experience story. The two large tabs at the top just below the site's header, indicate which mode you are currently in, as well as allow for a quick and easy switch from one mode to the other. The one on the left is the Browse Mode, and the one on the right is the Submit mode as shown below.
The darker tab is the one not currently on and the one you can click on to change the mode. The tab you are currently on is lighter in shade and seamless with the area below where you will find the relevant objects available in the current mode.

Browsing entries
Entries are personal life experience stories that others submitted at myexp.org. You can browse entries by categories. When you choose a main category, relevant sub categories are loaded for you into the sub categories list. One helpful tip for browsing is that if you notice that the sub categories list is not appearing as expected when you choose a main category, simply choose another main category and than the one you originally wanted. This will re-trigger the sub category list that responds to changes in the main categories.
Upon choosing a sub category, the system immediately looks for available entries and will list them below in the bluish left pane. If no entries were found, you will see a message to that effect, otherwise a list of all entries found for this category will appear in this pane, and you can click any to see the entry's text on the white pane to the right. Notice that while the system is searching the database for your requested information, a small processing prompt is always showing to let you know that the system is busy looking for and retrieving your information. The wait may be longer or shorter depending on how busy the system is.
Things to notice about the current entry text on the right are the Red Flag and Counters available showing on top of the text box (if any available), and below the text box the option to contact the author (if available) and the options to enter a Counter Experience and to Red Flag this entry. To read more about or use any of these options, simply click the option text. Important information on Red Flagging is available from the Orientation page, please read it before using flagging. You can only contact authors that agreed to be contacted. If such option is showing at the bottom, to contact the author, click this option and follow the prompts. Your message is delivered to the author by myexp.org and only if the author chooses to reply to you, you will be able to e-mail again directly to the author.
Submitting your own experience
When you first come to MyExp's home page, you are placed in the browsing mode by default, if you want to submit your own experience story, you need to change to the submit mode by clicking the "Tell the world" tab on the right hand side. This takes you to the opening page of the submit wizard and opens a submit session for you. In your submit session the wizard lets you go back and forth through the 7 steps, each being self explanatory with guiding text and examples. You don't have to re-type what you have already typed unless you want to change it, and you can review all your entries as many times as you want until you hit the last "Go Submit" button in step 7. If you missed any piece of information, you will be prompted to have a quick check and fix your misses before submitting again. Also at any time during your submit session, you may clear all your typed information and start a new, clean session by clicking the "Clear all and start new" button at the lower right from any step except 1 and 5.
Clicking he "Go Submit" button from the last step sends an e-mail to the address you provided, with a link to a page that lets you publish your entry. You need to find this e-mail and follow the link in it in order to publish your submission and have it available on the MyExp site for others to find and read. You will notice some number at the end of your e-mail link, this is the ID code of your submission, if you ever want to contact MyExp with reference to this submission, you will need to indicate this ID number.
Contacting the author
Whenever you see the option to contact the author just below the story text box, you know that the author of this experience is OK with being contacted by readers. All you have to do is click this option and follow the prompts to send your message. Always double check your e-mail address for accuracy when typing it in. It is up to the author to reply to your message, myexp.org only delivers your message to the author. If you receive an e-mail reply from the author, you will be able to continue with direct e-mail communication without the help of myexp.org.
If you did not receive any response from the author in a reasonable time period, you should take it as lack of desire by the author to engage in this communication, or as a sign that the author may no longer be using or checking that e-mail, in any case it is in MyExp's tradition of common curtsy to not send a second e-mail if your first one was not answered.
Red Flagging an entry at MyExp
Red Flagging is a powerful option given to everyone who believes that an entry at myexp.org is a commercial advertising, writing of obscenity, hate, discrimination or any other illegal or immoral matter. When you red flag an entry, everyone can see the red flag at the top of the entry with a number beside the flag that shows how many persons flagged this entry. You can only flag and entry once. Please read the short explanation about flagging in the Orientation page before using this option.
To Red Flag an entry, click the "Red Flag this story..." option from the bottom of the entry's text box, enter the information requested and click the button to flag. MyExp follows a prioritized process of reviewing flagged entries with consideration for deletion in extreme cases.
